A vision for a SoL global governance

Reflections

Context :

Our civilisation is probably totally changing, we are at a tipping point, the current economic and societal crisis is accelerating the process.
People are in search of new types of companies where human values are at the core of the system.
In 2009-2010, that means for SoL an actual opportunity to be more present all over the world, not only as an academic or a company process, but also to be at the core of the societal, humanistic, and ecological issues , it is possible to use the two words « sustainable development ».
To be visible and influent, SoL needs  means (human, financial) shared all over the world.

But  world is  in a financial crisis and more than ever, it is difficult for SoL to find how to get and how to manage these necessary means.

SoL is at the core of a vital issue. Belonging to the SoL global network is a key selling point to attrack new large or medium companies, a strength to draw the best managers or consultants. Global SoL has to exist, both on the continental field and on the international field.

How can we identify learning organizations in the world, find informations (on the web site) on these company learning models: make references to their various managerial approaches and how are their leaders able to convince.

Looking for a pattern

Historically, 10 years ago, SoL took the International Visa pattern based on DEE HOCK chaordic vision (chaos+order). Founding SoL (Boston) was issued from the Center for organizational learning at the MIT. The international network, today the Global network, is organised country by country as fractals. Does the process work? How can we create more exchanges, more inter-relationship.

Where can we look for new patterns ?

In a future-oriented society, can SoL be inspired by the mass of spontaneous emergence, how can we reinforce our awareness of what is happening in our complex world?

Take a few examples :
-    the G 20 is allowing « conversation » between political or enonomic leaders, not based on power but on personal relationship and empathy. This is re-structuring the world.
-    The Clinton Initiative is creating relationships between towns, ports, on a common theme : how to reduce CO2.
-    Humanitary projects creating a new type of capitalism (Danone in Bengla-Desh…)

How can we do:

-    the presentation of the 10th SoL Austria anniversary in relationship with the Clinton Initiative is for example great.

Can we imagine to create a network of networks and to be part of:

-    the network of change agents
-    the network of sustainable planetary initiatives
-    the network of human large, medium and small companies

How could we be more present on the Web 2.0, how can we use it to be daily interconnected in a blended way using physical meetings as well as distance communication.

SOL is a living « society », organised  in fractals which are by themselves « living societies ».
To remain living, we have to sustain these fractals developing self-organization and self-regulation. How could these fractals be interconnected between themselves and towards other networks by the way of « communities managers » working on Web 2.0?

There are no clear borders (who is in, who is out) but osmotic membrane permitting a blend of networks.

Regulated by a « wise navigation » committee to avoid bad side-effects, keeping the philosophical rules, regulating the common good between global and local (what we call GLOCAL). The role of this steering committee has to be light, helping to be informed on the multitude of various emergences, sometimes intervening to correct or to initiate or to promote. Who could be part of this « Wise Navigation Committee »? The chairmen (presidents) of the fractals, or specific designed experts. Peter Senge would be part of this committee at the right place.

A second « Pro-active committee » could be opened to the « projects leaders »  coming from all over the world as well as to some « liaison company officers ».

Some types of projects to give more existence to SoL Global and to be shared by several fractales (at the 3 levels : local, continental, global).

-    A world newsletter (to share information between us and towards our stakeholders)
-    Global Forums
-    Specific seminars
-    International Publications
-    International research-action

Financing an international membership. Which proposals?

With this international visibility (in terms of vision, governance, projects), it would be easier to get in touch with Foundations (Clinton Initiative, Open Society Fund (Soros), German Marshall Fund, American Foundations, European Union research programme…
Founding SoL will continue to receive  subscriptions to Reflections.
Would it be possible to ask an international membership fee  for the secretary of the Wise Governance Committee. (WGC?). Would this WGC be organized on the pattern of « a circulating leadership secretaryship » each 6 months, moving from Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America

Where are we?
How to create a GLOCAL organization, a network of change agents.
